About the Department:

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Edgar Degas

In our Art Department at Rhyl High School we strive to provide a positive, interesting and stimulating introduction into the world of Art, Craft & Design.

We believe that every child matters and aim to open our pupils’ eyes to really see the vast array of colour’s, textures, patterns and artwork from around the world.

We help our pupils to expand their imaginations and creative abilities, to develop their confidence in their artistic talents by learning about artists, craft workers and designers from around the globe from vast array of genres and periods in history.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”

Scott Adams

We aim to make our classes fun, engaging and challenging by encouraging our pupils to become independent learners, enabling them to experience through a practical hands on approach, learning to use a wide variety of media, materials, skills and techniques.

We aim to inspire pupils to develop a broad comprehension of Art, Craft and Design. We aim teach them how to make decisions for themselves, communicate their thoughts through their art work, organise, improve and progress their talents by building on their prior learning.

We aim to help every pupil aspire to greater things, to build their confidence in their own abilities, to enable them to think more about how they view the world around them, developing their minds to grow into open minded individuals to be able to form a valid opinion that matters.

“It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.”
